Katharina Matz
Actor
Katharina Matz was a German actress who made her mark on theater, film, and television over many decades. After training as an actress in Magdeburg, her career took her from her first engagements in Greifswald to the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and later to the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, where she was a permanent member of the ensemble for almost half a century. Parallel to her intensive stage work, she developed an extensive film and television career, which took her from early DEFA productions to contemporary German cinema. Her formative film work includes early roles in Carola Lamberti - Eine vom Zirkus (Carola Lamberti - One of the Circus) and Der Mann, der sich verkaufte (The Man Who Sold Himself), as well as television work in Die Zeit und die Conways (Time and the Conways) and the miniseries Maximilian von Mexiko (Maximilian of Mexico). A late, highly acclaimed chapter in her film career is her appearance in LEIF IN CONCERT - VOL. 2 (2019, directed by Christian Klandt), in which she plays one of the striking characters in the pub community as part of the ensemble film. She also appeared in the thriller Who Am I – Kein System ist sicher and remained a regular presence on television into her old age with productions such as Der letzte Wille, Tatort, and Großstadtrevier. For her theater work, Katharina Matz received the Rolf Mares Prize in 2008 for her performance in Das letzte Feuer (The Last Fire) at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. With this award and a long series of memorable roles on stage, in film, and on television, she is considered an artist who was able to combine sensitive character studies, precise language, and great composure, thus becoming an integral part of the German-speaking acting scene for decades.
