Peter Prager, born on March 18, 1952, in Leipzig, is a German actor with over 160 film and television productions to his credit. He had his breakthrough in 1976 as soldier Becker in Konrad Wolf's DEFA classic Mama, ich lebe (Mama, I'm Alive). He studied acting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Theater Academy in Leipzig, graduating in 1976. He became known to a wide audience through his long-running role as Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Peter Gerlach in the ARD series St. Angela, which began in 2001. In the film DER TANGOSPIELER (1991, directed by Roland Gräf), Peter Prager took on the role of Roessler. The film tells the story of a historian who, after serving a prison sentence for a “subversive” tango, wants to return to his university but refuses and instead ends up as a waiter on Hiddensee – a precise and symbolic DEFA work. In addition to St. Angela, his series portfolio includes regular appearances in popular formats such as Nord bei Nordwest, Das Duo, and Doctor's Diary. In the crime series Nord bei Nordwest, he made an impressive comeback after two strokes in the role of secret service agent Reimar Vogt – a comeback that proved his willpower and presence. Peter Prager stands for versatile acting that ranges from sensitive character work to commanding roles – his film and TV work combines depth with authenticity.
