Ulrike Krumbiegel, born on December 16, 1961, in East Berlin, is an actress of great depth and versatility whose career spans theater, film, and television. She studied acting at the Ernst Busch Academy in Berlin and appeared early on in DEFA productions and on renowned theater stages in the GDR. Her best-known films and series impressively illustrate her range. She appeared in Der Untergang (Downfall, 2004, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel) as Dorothee Kranz—a defining role in cinema. In the thriller Antikörper (2005, directed by Christian Alvart), she brought psychological depth to the role of Rosa Martens. The emotional family drama Meer is nich (2007, directed by Christian Frosch, among others) shows her as mother Karla in a touching coming-of-age story. The multi-award-winning debut feature film DIE ANFÄNGERIN (2017, directed by Alexandra Sell) is also one of her highlights: in the role of Annebärbel Buschhaus, a woman in her fifties who fulfills her childhood dream of figure skating, she impresses with charm, credibility, and depth. She is a fixture on television, particularly as Clara Born in the series Bloch (2002–2013), but also appears regularly in crime dramas such as Tatort, Derrick, and Der Alte, as well as in high-quality TV movies.
