Helga Göring (also known by her stage name Helga Bonnet, born January 14, 1922, in Meissen, died October 3, 2010, in Berlin) was an iconic German actress who shaped film and television audiences for decades. She trained from 1938 to 1940 at the renowned acting academy in Dresden, where her teachers included Erich Ponto. She demonstrated her talent early on at renowned theaters such as the Stadttheater Bielefeld and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Göring made her film debut in 1951 in the DEFA production Das verurteilte Dorf (The Condemned Village) before establishing herself in tragic character roles in productions such as Zwei Mütter (Two Mothers, 1957) and as Käthe Kollwitz in Sieh' den Menschen (See the Man). In GDR television series such as Rentner haben niemals Zeit (Pensioners Never Have Time), Geschichten übern Gartenzaun (Stories Over the Garden Fence) and Drei reizende Schwestern (Three Charming Sisters), she won over audiences as an unmistakable folk actress. She received numerous awards for her artistic work, including the GDR Art and National Prize and was voted “TV darling” eight times. Helga Göring also appeared in the DEFA film MEINE FREUNDIN SYBILLE (1967), playing the role of a psychiatrist in this charming Black Sea comedy. After reunification, she remained loyal to television and took on roles in popular formats such as Tatort, Polizeiruf 110, Der Landarzt, and in the film Die Unberührbare (2000) and Gregor's Greatest Invention (2001). She remained active into her old age, making her last appearance in 2007 in the comedy Einmal Dieb, immer Dieb.
