Helmut Schreiber (November 16, 1925 – February 10, 1995) was a German actor, author, director, and voice actor for dubbing and radio plays. He became known for his versatility and his appearances in over a hundred DEFA and DFF productions. He made his film debut in 1954 in the war film Stärker als die Nacht (Stronger Than the Night). He became particularly popular through his appearances in DEFA fairy tale films: in KÖNIG DROSSELBART (King Thrushbeard, 1965, directed by Walter Beck), he played King Heinz Eduard. He also appeared in numerous other important films, including as Samuel Blake in “Spur des Falken” (Trail of the Falcon) and in the sequel WEIßE WÖLFE (White Wolves, 1969, directed by Konrad Petzold). He played further roles in Schwarze Panther (Black Panther), Chingachgook, die große Schlange (Chingachgook, the Great Snake), Dornröschen (Sleeping Beauty) and Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot (Snow White and Rose Red). His versatility made him an integral part of GDR cinema. Helmut Schreiber was also a familiar face on television. He appeared in popular productions such as “Stülpner-Legende,” “Zur See,” and “Familie intakt.” In addition to his acting work, he was active as a voice actor and also worked as a writer and director. He was awarded the title of Honorary Stuntman for his numerous stunts, which underscored his special position within the film industry. With his extensive body of work spanning several decades, Helmut Schreiber had a lasting impact on German cinema and television. His roles in KÖNIG DROSSELBART and WEIßE WÖLFE remain among the most famous achievements of his career to this day.
