ActorTaylor Momsen was born on July 26, 1993, in St. Louis, Missouri, and began her career as a child model before gaining a foothold in the film business. One of her first appearances was in The Prophet's Game (1999, directed by David Worth). She gained widespread attention for her role as Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000, directed by Ron Howard) alongside Jim Carrey. In 2002, she starred in We Were Soldiers (directed by Randall Wallace) and in 2006 in Spy Kids 2: The Return of the Super Spies (directed by Robert Rodriguez) and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003, directed by Robert Rodriguez).
In 2007, she took another step forward with the independent film PARANOID PARK (2007, directed by Gus Van Sant). The film, based on a novel by Blake Nelson, tells the story of a teenage skateboarder in Portland. Momsen plays a supporting role in the film. The film was screened in competition at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and won the award for best film in the “Cinéastes du présent” competition at the Locarno Film Festival.
However, she achieved her international breakthrough with the role of Jenny Humphrey in the successful TV series Gossip Girl, which was produced from 2007 to 2012 under the creative direction of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The series made her famous worldwide and established her as an actress in the teen drama genre.
In addition to her acting career, Taylor Momsen also devoted herself to music. In 2009, she founded the rock band The Pretty Reckless, with which she released several internationally successful albums. This step led her to focus almost entirely on her singing career from 2012 onwards.
