Born in Rome in 1965, actor and director Alessandro Gassmann began his career in theater before turning to cinema. He gained international attention for his role in Ferzan Özpetek's film *Hamam* (1997). For his performance in *Quiet Chaos* (2008), he was awarded the David di Donatello for Best Supporting Actor. In addition to his extensive acting work, which includes the successful television series *The Bastards of Pizzofalcone*, Gassmann is also active as a filmmaker, making his directorial debut in 2012 with *Razzabastarda*.
