DirectorEugène Green is a French-American director, actor, and writer who occupies a special place in European auteur cinema with his distinctive film language. His works are characterized by precise image compositions, architectural symbolism, and a calm, contemplative narrative style. Green began his career in theater before gaining international attention in the early 2000s with poetic, formally rigorous films.
With LE MONDE VIVANT (2003), he created a modern, humorous parable about morality and imagination, which was screened at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes. The film combines medieval narrative structures with contemporary language and marks Green's breakthrough as a director. In THE PORTUGUESE NUN (2009), he linked spiritual questions with a journey through Lisbon and staged an encounter between reality and transcendence. LA SAPIENZA (2014), on the other hand, deals with the search for inner clarity and creative inspiration against the backdrop of Baroque architecture—a work that impressively illustrates Green's interest in philosophy and the spiritual dimension of art.
