Maciej J. Drygas is a Polish documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, and university professor, born in Łódź in 1956. After studying at VGIK in Moscow, he worked as an assistant to Kieślowski and Zanussi. He is known for his thoroughly researched archival films such as Usłyszcie mój krzyk (1991), Stan nieważkości (1994), Jeden dzień w PRL (2005), and Trains (2024). Many of his films poetically reflect on the psychosocial dimensions of totalitarian systems. He teaches at the Łódź Film School and is head of the Reportage Laboratory at the Scientific Institute in Warsaw. Trains won several international awards in 2024. Drygas' work combines historical depth with subjective storytelling and has made him a prominent voice in contemporary documentary filmmaking.
