Vincent Gallo
Actor
Vincent Gallo (born April 11, 1961 in Buffalo, New York) is an American actor, director, musician, and visual artist. His distinctive, eccentric appearance made him a prominent figure in underground cinema early on. He achieved his international breakthrough as an actor with TROUBLE EVERY DAY (2001, directed by Claire Denis), a controversial erotic thriller that was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and presented his intense portrayal of Shane Brown to a global audience. As a filmmaker, Gallo caused a sensation with his debut Buffalo '66 (1998), which he directed, wrote, and starred in—for which he received, among other awards, the MovieZone Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for a remarkable debut film. Other directing credits include The Brown Bunny (2003), which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Viennale. Gallo was honored with the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and nominated for a number of prestigious awards, including the Palme d'Or, Golden Lion, and Bronze Horse. His works are characterized by an uncompromising, idiosyncratic style and have achieved cult status—supported by his parallel career as a musician, painter, and photographer.
