Left-wing militant guerrillas on one side, state violence and right-wing paramilitaries on the other, waged a bloody conflict over land, drugs and power. The consequences for the civilian population: hundreds of thousands dead and millions of refugees. The FARC, South America's largest guerrilla, signed a peace treaty in 2016, transformed itself into a political party, and 7,000 resistance fighters laid down their arms. The government promised training and reintegration programs to integrate the ex-guerrillas into society. However, the outcome of this unique peace process remains unclear.
