VENI VIDI VICI follows Viktoria and Amon Maynard, a super-rich couple raising their children in near-perfect comfort. Their world seems to answer to them alone: there is no risk, only ease, privilege and a sense that nothing can truly touch them. To balance that abundance, Amon goes hunting, but he does not shoot animals. The result is an absurd and unsettling starting point for a corrosive satire. As the story develops, the polished surface gives way to a sharper look at what that wealth means. The film observes how power shapes family life, how luxury can conceal emptiness, and how a seemingly protected existence depends on distance from everyone else. VENI VIDI VICI lets tension grow from contradiction rather than conventional suspense, turning comfort, control and moral blindness into the source of unease. The film presents itself as a bitter political satire about the all-powerful super-rich, about winners and losers, and about the division between us and the others. It takes aim at the entanglement of politics and business and treats capitalism as a dangerous game. Its social edge comes from refusing to soften the privilege it depicts, keeping the focus on power and consequence. VENI VIDI VICI premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival 2024 and also screened at festivals including Rotterdam, Sydney, Filmfest München, Diagonale Graz, Stockholm, Fünf Seen, GEGENkino Leipzig, Braunschweig and Exground Wiesbaden.
