Aaron Altaras

Actor
Aaron Altaras is a German actor who has established himself as a versatile performer in cinema, television, and streaming productions. Raised in Berlin in a family of artists—his mother is actress and director Adriana Altaras, his father is composer Wolfgang Böhmer—he appeared in front of the camera at an early age. He first attracted attention as a teenager in the ARD film Nicht alle waren Mörder (Not All Were Murderers, 2006), in which he played the young Michael Degen. This was followed by leading and supporting roles in award-winning film and series productions. Particularly noteworthy are Die Unsichtbaren – Wir wollen leben (2017), which won several international awards, and the queer soccer drama Mario (2018), which attracted a lot of attention at festivals. Altaras achieved his international breakthrough with the Netflix miniseries Unorthodox (2020), which won the award for “Best Miniseries” at the Canneseries festival and was honored with an Emmy for “Best Director.” Also central was his role in the lavishly produced TV series Eldorado KaDeWe – Jetzt ist unsere Zeit (2021), which received a great response in Germany under the title Die Zweiflers. Aaron Altaras has received numerous awards for his acting and is now considered one of the most distinctive representatives of a new generation of German actors. In addition to film and series roles, he is also active in theater and music: together with his brother, he forms the duo Alcatraz. His work is characterized by emotional range, presence, and a strong sense of socially relevant themes, making him a sought-after artist in both German and international contexts.

This ambitious directorial debut chronicles lesbian lifestyles and social networking in Vienna in the 1950s and 60s. In those years, Vienna was a drab and traditional place. The scene - if it existed at all - was male- oriented, and the few bars where women did meet were not particularly inviting. Lesbian life was characterized by invisibility and, if anything, was criminalized. Three eyewitnesses of that era talk in an eloquently and refreshingly (self-)ironic way about what it was like to feel ...
