Angelica Domröse

Angelica Domröse, born on April 4, 1941, in Berlin-Weißensee, is a renowned German actress who became famous for her role as Paula in the cult DEFA film DIE LEGENDE VON PAUL UND PAULA (The Legend of Paul and Paula). This film was made in 1973 and directed by Heiner Carow. The production is considered one of the most successful feature films of the GDR and made Domröse famous overnight. Prior to this breakthrough, she had already appeared in Verwirrung der Liebe (Confusion of Love, directed by Slatan Dudow) in 1959, Die Abenteuer des Werner Holt (The Adventures of Werner Holt, directed by Joachim Kunert) in 1965, and Chronik eines Mordes (Chronicle of a Murder, directed by), the latter based on the work of the same name by Leonhard Frank. In 1967, she appeared in Ein Lord am Alexanderplatz (A Lord at Alexanderplatz, directed by Günter Reisch). In the 1980s, she starred in Randale (Riot, 1983, directed by Manfred Purzer). After German reunification, she continued her career and appeared on the big screen again in 2012 in Bis zum Horizont, dann links! (To the Horizon, Then Left!, directed by Bernd Böhlich). On television, she made her mark in the crime series Polizeiruf 110 as Inspector Vera Bilewski from 1994 onwards, including in the episode Samstags, wenn Krieg ist (Saturdays, When There's War), until ARD discontinued production in 1998. She also appeared in series such as Kir Royal (directed by Helmut Dietl) and Der Alte (The Old Man). Angelica Domröse's versatile career includes DEFA classics, theater, and television productions. She has received numerous awards, including the National Prize of the GDR and nominations for Television Actress of the Year in the 1970s. Her artistic work spans decades and remains impressive to this day.
