Anja Franke

Anja Franke (born April 5, 1964 in Berlin) is a German actress, director, and screenwriter. She appeared in front of the camera at a young age and became known to a wide audience through her role in the series Liebling Kreuzberg. Later, she took on a recurring role in the telenovela Rote Rosen, among other things, and established herself as a fixture in the German television landscape. An important milestone in her film career was the leading role in ÜBERALL IST ES BESSER, WO WIR NICHT SIND (1989, directed by Michael Klier), in which she played the character of Marina. The drama, which deals with the lives of young people in the post-reunification period, won several awards, including the Hessian Film Prize and the Grimme Prize. Her intense performance made Franke a prominent representative of young German cinema in the late 1980s. In addition to acting, Anja Franke also works as a director and screenwriter. Among other things, she has directed episodes for television productions and written screenplays for various formats. She has received recognition for her work, including the Max Ophüls Audience Award in 1986, which brought her great attention early on. With her diverse work, Anja Franke has shaped German cinema and television for decades and remains an artist who makes her mark both in front of and behind the camera.
