Benoît Magimel

Benoît Magimel (born May 11, 1974 in Paris) is a French actor who has appeared in more than 80 film and television productions since the late 1980s. He achieved his international breakthrough in 2001 with his leading role in The Piano Teacher (2001, directed by Michael Haneke), for which he received the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival. For his performance in Standing Tall (2015, directed by Emmanuelle Bercot), he won the César Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2016. In PACIFICTION (2022, directed by Albert Serra), Magimel plays the central character of High Commissioner De Roller in Tahiti in this slow-paced political thriller, which was screened in competition at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival. For his performance in PACIFICTION, he won the 2023 César Award for Best Actor and the Lumière Award for Best Actor. His other well-known films include The King Dances (2000, directed by Gérard Corbiau), The Bridesmaid (2004, directed by Claude Chabrol), and Peaceful (2021, directed by Emmanuelle Bercot), for which he was again awarded the César for Best Actor in 2022. His television appearances include the series Pause-café.
