Birgit Minichmayr

Birgit Minichmayr, born in Linz in 1977, is one of the most prominent actresses in the German-speaking world. She trained at the renowned Otto Falckenberg School in Munich before becoming a permanent member of the ensemble at the Munich Kammerspiele. There she worked with leading directors such as Andreas Kriegenburg and Thomas Ostermeier, while at the same time building an impressive film and television career. An important film in her career is HOTEL (2004, directed by Jessica Hausner). In this psychological thriller, Minichmayr played a striking role in a work that was shown internationally at festivals and impressed audiences with its atmospheric density. HOTEL is considered an example of the interplay between Austrian auteur cinema and intense acting. Birgit Minichmayr has also appeared in numerous other film productions. She became particularly well known for her performance in Alle Anderen (2009, directed by Maren Ade), for which she received the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlinale. Other films such as “Der Knochenmann” (2009, directed by Wolfgang Murnberger) and “Gnade” (2012, directed by Matthias Glasner) demonstrated her versatility and her ability to embody complex characters. She also played a supporting role in “Toni Erdmann” (2016, directed by Maren Ade), which was a huge international success. In addition to her film work, Minichmayr is a regular presence on television, for example in productions such as “Tatort,” where she also demonstrated her talent for nuanced acting. Her artistic work has been honored with numerous awards, including the Silver Bear at the Berlinale and nominations for the German Film Award.
