Christian Berkel

Christian Berkel (born October 28, 1957 in West Berlin) is a German actor, radio play and audiobook narrator, and author. He became known to a wide audience through his roles as Prisoner No. 38 in “The Experiment” (2001, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel) and as SS doctor Ernst Günther Schenck in “Downfall” (2004, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel). In DER LETZTE ANGESTELLTE (2010 production, theatrical release 2011, directed and written by Alexander Adolph), he plays the lawyer David Böttcher and received the Best Actor award at the 2011 Fantaspoa Film Festival in Brazil for his performance. The film itself was named Best Film at the Leeds Festival in 2010, and Alexander Adolph received the award for Best Director in Mexico in 2011. His other well-known works include “Valkyrie” (2008, directed by Bryan Singer), “Inglourious Basterds” (2009, directed by Quentin Tarantino) and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” (2015, directed by Guy Ritchie). He gained popularity on television as LKA Chief Inspector Bruno Schumann in the ZDF series “Der Kriminalist” (2006–2020). For his outstanding performances, he has been honored with the Bambi Award for his role in “Der Untergang” (2004), the Golden Gong for “Tatort: Schwarzer Advent” (1998), and the Golden Camera for Best National Actor for “Mogadischu” (2009), among others.
