Connie Nielsen

Connie Nielsen, born on July 3, 1965, in Frederikshavn, Denmark, is an internationally successful actress known for her expressive roles in film and television. She gained her first stage experience as a child alongside her mother in local theater productions. Her acting training later took her to Paris and Rome before she moved to the US. In the thriller DEMONLOVER (2002), directed by Olivier Assayas, Nielsen plays the character Diane de Monx. The neo-noir film is characterized by a dense atmosphere and complex corporate intrigue and was presented at the Cannes Film Festival, among other venues. She previously gained widespread recognition as Lucilla in Ridley Scott's epic historical film Gladiator (2000). Other film highlights of her career include Mission to Mars (2000), One Hour Photo (2002), Soldier (1998), Basic (2003), The Hunted (2003), The Ice Harvest (2005), and Nymphomaniac (2013). She also played the Amazon queen Hippolyta in the DC Extended Universe, for example in Wonder Woman (2017) and Justice League (2017/2021). On television, she appeared as Detective Dani Beck in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2006). Other series engagements include Boss (2011–2012), The Following (2014), I Am the Night (2019), and the British miniseries Close to Me (2021), in which she plays a Danish translator who loses her memory. With over four decades of film and television experience, multilingualism, and stylish acting, Connie Nielsen has established herself as a fixture in international cinema.
