Fabrice Luchini

Actor
Fabrice Luchini is one of the most distinguished actors in French cinema. Born in Paris in 1951, he began his career in the 1970s and quickly became one of the most sought-after character actors in his country. With his precise language, his keen sense of irony, and his penchant for literary material, he embodies characters with intellectual depth and subtle wit. A current example of his work is his participation in THE EMPIRE (2024, directed by Bruno Dumont). The film, a grotesque science fiction satire about power, religion, and human weaknesses, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival. Luchini fits into Dumont's multi-layered ensemble and once again proves his ability to develop a credible presence even in surreal narrative worlds. In ALICE ET LE MAIRE (2019, directed by Nicolas Pariser), he took on the leading role of Mayor Paul Théraneau, who realizes his intellectual emptiness after years in politics. Alongside Anaïs Demoustier, who won a César for her performance, Luchini impresses with his subtle melancholy and razor-sharp observation. The film was highly praised for its dialogue and precise acting and is considered one of his strongest works in recent years. His other well-known films include works such as “The Jewel” (2010, directed by François Ozon), “In My Kingdom” (1993, directed by Éric Rohmer) and “The Woman on the 6th Floor” (2010, directed by Philippe Le Guay). Luchini has been honored with several César Awards for his performances, including Best Actor in 2015 for “Gemma Bovery.” His extraordinary stage and screen presence, coupled with linguistic elegance, make him one of the defining faces of modern French cinema.
