Georg Friedrich
ActorGeorg Friedrich is one of the most influential actors in German-language cinema and has appeared in numerous film and television productions since the 1990s. He is known for his versatility and his ability to portray broken, complex characters with a powerful presence. His career spans both arthouse productions and larger film projects, in which he consistently impresses with his intense performances.
One of his early important roles was in FREMDE HAUT (Strange Skin) from 2005, directed by Angelina Maccarone, in which he was part of an impressive story about identity and flight. In 2007, he starred in DIE UNERZOGENEN (The Unruly) by Pia Marais, where he played the character of a hippie and once again made his mark with his performance. In 2010, he appeared in IM ALTER VON ELLEN (At Ellen's Age) by Pia Marais, a film that deals with the upheaval in the life of a young woman. This was followed in 2011 by a role in ÜBER UNS DAS ALL (Above Us the Sky), directed by Jan Schomburg, which attracted attention at international festivals.
In addition to these productions, Georg Friedrich has appeared in numerous other well-known films, including Nordrand (1999, directed by Barbara Albert), Import Export (2007, directed by Ulrich Seidl), and Wilde Maus (2017, directed by Josef Hader). His performances in these films underscore his versatility, which has made him one of Austria's busiest character actors. He has also been a regular presence on television, appearing in productions such as Tatort and Polizeiruf 110.
He has received significant awards for his acting achievements. Particularly noteworthy is the Silver Bear for Best Actor, which he received at the 2017 Berlinale for his role in Helle Nächte (Bright Nights) by Thomas Arslan. This honor marked a high point in his career and confirmed his standing within the European film world.
