Heinz Schubert

Actor
Heinz Schubert, born on November 12, 1925, in Berlin and died on February 12, 1999, in Hamburg, was an important German actor who became particularly well known for his role as “Ekel Alfred” in the cult series “Ein Herz und eine Seele” (One Heart and One Soul). His early successes included working at the Berliner Ensemble under Bertolt Brecht before moving to West Germany in 1961. In the DEFA fairy tale film DAS FEUERZEUG (1959) by director Siegfried Hartmann, Schubert played the role of the miserly rich man – a supporting role that stood out thanks to his commanding performance. Later, he played the character Felix Schnepf, a so-called brigadier, in the DEFA feature film AUF DER SONNENSEITE (1961), directed by Ralf Kirsten, demonstrating his versatility as a character actor in GDR film production. Schubert achieved his greatest popular success with the role of Alfred Tetzlaff, the narrow-minded patriarch in the ARD series “Ein Herz und eine Seele” (1973–1976), which made him an integral part of German television history. Heinz Schubert also appeared in other notable productions, such as Hadschi Halef Omar in the ZDF series “Kara Ben Nemsi Effendi” (1973–1975), in international productions such as “Finale in Berlin” alongside Michael Caine, and in films such as “Hitler – Ein Film aus Deutschland.” He was also an acting teacher and later even taught as a professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater. He was awarded the Golden Camera and the Adolf Grimme Prize, among other honors, for his work.
