Hiroshi Abe (born June 22, 1964 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) is a Japanese actor and former model, known for his expressive roles in film and television. He gained widespread recognition for his performance in STILL WALKING (2008, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda), a family drama about a memorial gathering, in which he plays the son Ryota Yokoyama. The film was highly acclaimed and won the Golden Astor for Best Film at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, among other awards. Other notable works by Abe include Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999, directed by Takao Okawara) and After the Storm (2016, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda), for which he won the Best Actor award at the 2009 Mainichi Film Awards. He became particularly well known on television for his recurring role in the series Trick (since 2000, various directors). In addition to his acting achievements, Abe has received numerous awards: in 2012, he won the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actor for his role in Thermae Romae, followed by the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actor in 2013 for the same film. These honors underscore his versatility and status as a sought-after character actor in Japan.
