Ivette Löcker

Ivette Löcker is an Austrian documentary filmmaker who has made a name for herself with sensitive portraits and urban explorations. Her work is characterized by direct observation, poetic imagery, and an often autobiographical approach. Her documentary film NIGHT SHIFTS was released in 2011. Ivette Löcker wrote and directed the film. It follows people in Berlin who remain invisible during the day and have made the night their home. Through intimate observations and conversations, she paints a multifaceted picture of the urban night world. WENN ES BLENDET ÖFFNE DIE AUGEN (WHEN IT BLINDS, OPEN YOUR EYES) was released in 2014. In this documentary, Löcker portrays Schanna and Ljoscha, a heroin-addicted couple in post-Soviet St. Petersburg, and creates a moving, intimate, poetic portrait of their relationship. It was also directed by Ivette Löcker. WAS UNS BINDET (What Binds Us) dates from 2017. Ivette Löcker directed and wrote the script. Here she focuses on the legacy of stone and the longing for roots, set in the mountains of Salzburg. For this work, she received the Grand Prize of the Diagonale in the documentary film category. The title ANJA UND SERJOSCHA is also part of her filmography, but there is little publicly available information about it. What is known is that Löcker also took up personal life stories in this project and turned them into a documentary. Ivette Löcker was awarded the Grand Diagonale Prize in 2011 for NIGHT SHIFTS, the Outstanding Artist Award Film in 2014, and the Diagonale Prize again in 2017 for WAS UNS BINDET (What Binds Us). Her films explore existing worlds with a sensitive camera and a keen sense of interpersonal relationships.
