Katrin Schlösser is a German film producer and documentary filmmaker. She was born in Leipzig in 1965 and, together with Frank Löprich, founded the Berlin-based production company öFilm in 1990, which specializes in independent auteur films and documentary projects. As a producer, she made a name for herself with works such as Stau – Jetzt geht’s los (1992), Schlafkrankheit (2011), and Westen (2013), which won numerous awards and made a social and artistic impact. Since the mid-2010s, she has also been working as a director of her own documentaries, including Szenen meiner Ehe (Scenes from My Marriage, 2019), an intimate portrait of her own relationship, and Besuch im Bubenland (Visit to Boyland, 2024), a cinematic road trip about male self-images in southern Burgenland. Schlösser taught as a professor at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne from 2007 to 2022 and has been chair of the board of trustees of the DEFA Foundation since 2019. She is considered a central voice in German-language auteur and documentary film, supporting the artistic visions of others while opening up radically personal perspectives in her own work.
