Marcel Gisler is a Swiss filmmaker and screenwriter known for his powerful feature films. Born in Altstätten in 1960, he studied theater studies and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin, where he founded the “cinéma copain” film group. He has made award-winning works such as Tagediebe (1985), Die blaue Stunde (1991), F. est un salaud (1998), Rosie (2013), and the documentary Electroboy (2014). He is particularly well known for his film Mario (2018), a sensitive drama about two gay soccer players navigating their love in a world of career ambitions and prejudice.
