ActorDirectorMark Duplass, born on December 7, 1976, in New Orleans, is an American actor, director, screenwriter, and producer. Together with his brother Jay Duplass, he is one of the pioneers of the so-called “mumblecore” movement in independent cinema. He plays one of the leading roles in the influential indie production HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS (2007, directed by Joe Swanberg), which became a defining work of the mumblecore genre. In 2008, he co-directed and co-wrote BAGHEAD (2008, directed by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass), a horror-comedy mumblecore film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Duplass' career continued with many other well-known projects. Together with his brother, he created The Puffy Chair (2005), their directorial debut, which won audience awards. He played significant roles in films such as Cyrus (2010) and Creep (2014), the latter of which brought him and his team widespread recognition as producers. Television viewers know him from series such as Room 104 (2017–2020), which he co-developed, as well as co-writer and actor in the anthology series The Creep Tapes (2024). Duplass has received several awards for his diverse achievements, including nominations at the Sundance Festival and recognition in trade media as a key representative of a new wave of independent filmmaking.
