Renate Krößner

Renate Krößner was born on May 17, 1945, in Osterode am Harz and grew up in East Berlin, where she completed her acting studies at the State Drama School in Berlin in 1964. She had her breakthrough in 1977 with her role as restaurant ship manager “Caramba” in the comedy FEUER UNTER DECK (Fire Below Deck), a DEFA film directed by Herrmann Zschoche, which was first shown on GDR television in 1979 and later in cinemas. She gained international recognition in 1980 with SOLO SUNNY, a film genre drama by Konrad Wolf (co-directed by Wolfgang Kohlhaase), in which she shone as pop singer Ingrid “Sunny” Sommer and was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlinale. After her escape from the GDR in the late 1980s, she established herself in West German television and film, including crime series such as Tatort, Polizeiruf 110, and Stubbe – Von Fall zu Fall. She also appeared in films such as Alles auf Zucker! (2004, directed by Dani Levy) and Mondscheinkinder (2006, directed by Manuela Stacke). With her powerful portrayal of rebellious characters, Renate Krößner had a lasting impact on German-language cinema and television until her death in May 2020.
