His melancholic masterpiece "Fa yeung nin wah - In the Mood for Love | 2000" is internationally celebrated for its visual poetry and emotional depth. He had already gained significant recognition with earlier works like "Chungking Express" (1994). For directing "Happy Together" (1997), Wong Kar-Wai was awarded Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival, cementing his status as an auteur.
