Pedro works as a webcam model. The young, introverted man from the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre has created his own world in the anonymity of his room. Reserved on the outside, he transforms into “NeonBoy” at night in front of the webcam, painting his body with bright neon colors and dancing for paying viewers. These nightly performances are not only a source of income for Pedro, but also an outlet for him to escape his isolation. When he discovers that another performer named Leo is copying his unique show, Pedro is torn from his routine. Confronting Leo leads to an unexpected relationship that forces Pedro to confront his deepest fears and desires. Amidst self-discovery, loneliness and the pursuit of connection, the film paints a haunting portrait of a young man trying to find his place in an often-alienating world. HARD PAINT (original title: TINTA BRUTA) is a Brazilian drama from 2018, directed by directors Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon. The film premiered in the Panorama section at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Teddy Award for best LGBTQ film and the C.I.C.A.E. Prize for best film in the Panorama section. It also received further honors at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, where it won in the categories of Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Shico Menegat) and Best Supporting Actor (Bruno Fernandes). The film also received international recognition at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, where it won the Premio Maguey for Best Feature Film.
