Synopsis
Philomena Schmidt (Romy Schneider) is penniless and her aging lover Villette refuses to marry the German. To register herself as an heiress, she hires unscrupulous lawyer Georges Sarret (Michel Piccoli).
Reinforced by Philomena's sister Catherine (Mascha Gonska), the now complete trio from hell discovers how lucrative sham marriages, the early demise of the spouses and the ensuing insurance fraud are.
The story about the murderous trio specializing in insurance fraud is taken from true events that took place in 1940s Marseille.
