Trailer

Three mysterious, sensual love stories—boundaries tested, narcissism, and love at risk.

Synopsis

Three eras: In 1928, a surgeon obsesses over perfection; in 1951, a gay soldier couple meets a stranger; in 2018, a painter copes with loss through art. It begins in 1928 with Alex, a plastic surgeon obsessed with physical perfection, who hosts a house party with a whole host of illustrious guests. Amid numerous romantic misfires, it finally becomes clear who he really desires... In 1951, we meet a gay soldier couple who encounter a mysterious stranger on their camping trip through the wilderness. Could this be the long-awaited chance to take their relationship in a new direction and venture into uncharted territory? It is 2018 when a painter is deeply affected by the loss of his lover. Can the creation of a realistic image of the departed bring relief? And indeed: the finished work is so beautiful and lifelike that it does not fail to have an effect... SHADOWLANDS, directed by Charlie David, is based on a collection of his own short stories and was produced as a miniseries by Border2Border Entertainment. The careful design of the individual episodes stands out for its visual elegance, atmospheric tension, and precise characterization. The anthology uses both the cinematic techniques of intimate theater and the paranormal to heighten the intensity of the stories. SHADOWLANDS screened in 2018 at various queer film festivals, including the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival and Outfest Los Angeles, where it met with great audience interest. Internationally, the series made stops at festivals in the US and Canada before also being shown in Europe. The work received recognition through several awards, including the Canadian Screen Award for Best Web Series.
