In the autumn of 2022, people take to the streets around the world. The death of 22-year-old Jina Mahsa Amini in Iranian police custody sparks outrage far beyond the country’s borders. In Germany, too, protests emerge as members of the Iranian diaspora and their supporters gather to express solidarity with the uprising in Iran. Roxana Samadi’s film turns its focus to these voices in exile. It follows different generations shaped by migration, political upheaval and lived experience — from those who fled the regime decades ago to young German-Iranians born and raised in Germany, who often know Iran only through family stories. Despite their different paths, they are united by a shared sense of responsibility and belonging. Moving between demonstrations, discussions and intimate conversations, the film creates a multi-layered portrait of identity, loss and hope. It shows how political protest can become a deeply personal act — a struggle over homeland, freedom and the question of how to make a difference from afar.
