At 1,300 meters above sea level in the Tyrolean Alps, a return centre houses people in the asylum process who are expected to leave Austria. The isolation of the location and the constant presence of return counselling shape their everyday lives. Within this setting, a tension emerges between the residents of the centre, the local population and the tourists who experience the surrounding landscape as a place of leisure. The idyllic alpine scenery stands in stark contrast to the reality of those waiting here for decisions about their future. BÜRGLKOPF observes this space with calm precision, revealing the structures that govern life within it. Between stillness and movement, hope and uncertainty, the film unfolds a layered portrait of a system embedded in a landscape of apparent tranquility. The film received the Best Documentary Award at the Diagonale 2025.
