The newly infatuated teenagers Gaspard and Marion spend what seems like a carefree summer on the French Mediterranean coast. But their relationship begins to shift after they unexpectedly witness a disturbing incident: following an apparent double suicide attempt, only the mysterious Audrey survives. Her enigmatic presence immediately draws Gaspard toward her. As Marion slowly drifts into the background, Gaspard becomes increasingly fascinated by Audrey and the dark world surrounding her. Through her, he discovers “Black Hole,” an obscure online role-playing game where virtual identities and reality begin to merge. What first appears to be a dangerous game gradually turns into a psychological trap that alters Gaspard’s perception of himself and the people around him. Balancing desire, jealousy and digital obsession, BLACK HEAVEN unfolds as a thriller about the seductive pull of virtual worlds and the vulnerability of young people searching for connection and belonging. The film constantly moves along the border between reality, fantasy and manipulation. Directed by Gilles Marchand, BLACK HEAVEN premiered out of competition at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. Starring Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, Pauline Etienne, Louise Bourgoin and Melvil Poupaud, the film blends coming-of-age drama, mystery and digital thriller into an atmospheric story about desire and loss of control.
