André Téchiné
DirectorAndré Téchiné is a French director and screenwriter and a major figure of European auteur cinema. Born in 1943 in Valence d’Agen, he began his career as a film critic for Cahiers du cinéma before turning to filmmaking in the late 1960s.
Since the 1970s, Téchiné has developed a distinctive cinematic style characterized by psychological precision, complex character relationships and a strong attention to social change. He gained international recognition with films such as Rendez-vous (1985), which was presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and Wild Reeds (Les Roseaux sauvages, 1994), which won several César Awards.
His other notable works include My Favorite Season (Ma saison préférée, 1993), Thieves (Les Voleurs, 1996), Being 17 (Quand on a 17 ans, 2016) and My New Friends (Les Âmes sœurs, 2023). His films often explore themes of identity, youth, family and social transformation, and are marked by a sensitive and intimate storytelling approach.
