ACHROME

Maris is a young and naive man who joins the Wehrmacht during the Nazi occupation of the Baltic States. Despite his initial enthusiasm, Maris soon discovers the horrors of war, especially the atrocities committed against Jewish prisoners. Through Maris' eyes, the audience is transported to a world of fog and shadows, where evil lurks in majestic churches and forests. This poetic and visually powerful film is gritty and dark, yet it also transports an icy, tranquil beauty. The film's misty, contrastless color palette acts as a metaphor for the irrevocably blurred lines between good and evil, innocence and guilt. Director Mariya Ignatenko's film is loosely based on the controversial book "Our People: Travels with the Enemy" by Lithuanian author Rūta Vanagaitė, which sparked a nationwide discussion about the Holocaust and collaboration.
