A hospital night becomes a test of duty and humanity. Leonie Benesch in a gripping portrait of care under pressure.
Synopsis
Floria is a nurse who works with precision, empathy and quiet commitment on a surgical ward in a Swiss hospital. She knows her patients, understands their fears and needs, and offers them support in their most vulnerable moments. When her late shift begins, the ward is already full and understaffed, and one colleague has fallen away. Floria moves between urgent needs: a seriously ill mother, an elderly man waiting anxiously for his diagnosis, and a private patient with a long list of wishes. Between routine, care and mounting pressure, tension builds until a critical mistake threatens to unravel everything. More than a workplace drama, Late Shift examines care as a social responsibility and shows how dependent patients are on attention, skill and experience. The film underlines how the shortage of nursing staff has become a serious health risk. Director Petra Volpe offers a respectful tribute to all care workers while exploring the human cost of an overburdened system. Leonie Benesch anchors the film with a forceful, absorbing performance that lingers long after the final scene.
