The magic of solo traveling in "ÖTE" - The director interviewed by SOONER
The film about Lela's trip to Turkey celebrated its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Coffee, beautiful landscapes and spontaneous encounters - New Yorker Lela travels through Turkey with a backpack and inner peace, on her way to Armenia. Co-directed by Esra Saydam and Malik Isasis, ÖTE is a love letter to the unique magic of solo travel and is now available on SOONER.
ÖTE is more than a film about traveling alone; it celebrates crossing borders, both geographically and personally, and presents a fresh, encouraging narrative that reflects the spirit of exploration and discovery. Unlike typical stories about black women, ÖTE focuses on Lela's journey without falling into stereotypes. In the new episode of the SOONERCAST, ÖTE director Malik Isasis explores the importance of diverse cinematic representations of black women's lives - beyond the "trauma porn".
