Andrea Martin, born on January 15, 1947, in Portland, Maine, is an American-Canadian actress, singer, and comedian. She became famous for her work in the sketch comedy series SCTV (1976–1984, various directors), where she played iconic characters such as Edith Prickley. She caused a sensation in the theater with her Broadway debut in My Favorite Year (1992, she declined to direct because musical direction was not central; she won the Tony Award). Further musical successes followed with Oklahoma! (2002) and Pippin (2013). In film, she is known for her roles in Cannibal Girls (1973, directed by Ivan Reitman), Black Christmas (1974, directed by Bob Clark), Wag the Dog (1997, directed by Barry Levinson), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001, directed by John Cameron Mitchell), and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002, directed by Joel Zwick, as well as the sequels in 2016 and 2023). She also provided voices in animated films such as Anastasia (1997, directed by Don Bluth), The Rugrats Movie (1998, directed by Igor Kovalyov) and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001, directed by John A. Davis). In the drama DIANE (2018, directed by Kent Jones), Andrea Martin plays the role of Bobbie and appears as part of the ensemble cast in a film that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also appears regularly in television series, including Evil (2021–2024, various directors) and the crime comedy Only Murders in the Building (since 2021, various directors). Andrea Martin has had a remarkable career spanning theater, film, voice, and television, and has won numerous awards, including Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards—she is considered one of the most versatile entertainers of her generation. In addition to her work on screen, Andrea Martin also has a remarkable theater career. She has won two Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical: first for her role in My Favorite Year (1993) and later for Pippin (2013).
