Andreas Voigt
Director
Born in Eisleben in 1953, director Andreas Voigt is one of Germany's defining documentary filmmakers, whose work intensely examines social upheavals in East Germany. He became known for his Leipzig Cycle, a long-term project that began with the film "Leipzig im Herbst" (Leipzig in Autumn, 1989) about the Monday demonstrations. For this and its follow-up film "Letztes Jahr Titanic" (Last Year Titanic), he received the prestigious Grimme Prize for each. Other installments in the series, such as "Glaube, Liebe, Hoffnung" (Faith, Love, Hope, 1994), which won the Joris Ivens Award in Amsterdam, and "Alles andere zeigt die Zeit" (As Time Goes By, 2015), continue his chronicle-like observations. His films are regularly screened at international festivals like the Berlinale.
