Angela Schanelec

Born in 1962, director and screenwriter Angela Schanelec first studied acting before beginning her studies at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb). She is considered one of the formative filmmakers of the so-called Berlin School and is known for her formally precise and often elliptical narrative style. She received major international recognition at the Berlinale, where she was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Director for the film *I Was at Home, But...* (2019). Four years later, the same festival honored her work *Music* (2023) with the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay. Her earlier important works also include *Marseille* (2004).
