Barbet Schroeder

Director
Born in Tehran in 1941, director and producer Barbet Schroeder began his career as a film critic and co-founded the production company Les Films du Losange, which was influential for the French New Wave. His diverse cinematic work spans several decades and genres. For his direction of the drama *Reversal of Fortune* (1990), he received an Academy Award nomination. His other formative works include the cult film *Barfly* (1987), which earned a Palme d'Or nomination at Cannes, and the documentary *Terror's Advocate* (2007), which was honored with a César Award. His films often explore extreme psychological and moral states.
