Benoît Poelvoorde, born on September 22, 1964, in Namur, is one of Belgium's most famous actors. He first gained widespread attention in 1992 with the film Man Bites Dog, in which he not only played the lead role but also contributed to the screenplay. Since then, he has impressed audiences in a wide variety of roles and has become one of the most versatile actors in French-language cinema. His comedic talent and his ability to portray serious characters convincingly have made him famous beyond his country's borders. Poelvoorde has been particularly prominent in films such as Podium from 2004, in which he played the role of a Claude François impersonator, and in Le Tout Nouveau Testament from 2015, directed by Jaco Van Dormael. In the latter, he played an unusually cynical God and earned international recognition for his performance. He also demonstrated his flair for idiosyncratic characters in comedies such as Les Amoureux anonymes (2010) and Quentin Dupieux's absurd Au poste! (2018). Another important work is ADORATION from 2019, directed by Fabrice Du Welz, in which Poelvoorde can be seen in an intense thriller drama. Back in 2010, he was part of the pitch-black comedy KILL ME PLEASE, directed by Olias Barco, which caused a stir at festivals with its macabre humor. In addition to these projects, he has also appeared in productions such as Aaltra and Der Tag wird kommen, and in 2014 he received the Magritte Award for Best Actor for Une place sur la terre.
