ActorLars Mikkelsen has earned himself a permanent place in European film and television with his striking character roles and internationally visible productions. His acting combines precision and quiet intensity, making him equally convincing in dramatic material and complex series worlds. His career is marked by demanding characters, which he fills with great versatility and which have cemented his reputation as an outstanding performer.
In the 2021 feature film TÖCHTER (Daughters), directed by Nana Neul, he plays the sculptor Madsen and shapes the atmosphere of the film with his calm, haunting presence. He gained international recognition for his work in House of Cards, in which he plays Russian President Viktor Petrov, and Sherlock, where he is remembered as the mysterious cult leader Charles Augustus Magnussen. Other notable roles include his participation in The Witcher and the voice of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels, a character he later also portrayed in the live-action series Ahsoka. His well-known Danish series work includes Kommissarin Lund and Borgen, which have lasting strengthened his position in Scandinavian series cinema.
His achievements have been recognized with numerous awards. He received an International Emmy Award for his role in The Ways of the Lord and has been honored at Danish award ceremonies such as the Robert Awards, demonstrating his continued relevance within Scandinavian film culture. The combination of international productions and national recognition makes him one of the most distinctive Danish actors of his generation.
