Born in Montreuil in 1949, French actor Niels Arestrup began his career on the stage. Known for his intense portrayals of complex characters, he gained international recognition particularly through his collaborations with director Jacques Audiard. His acting performance has been honored three times with the César Award for Best Supporting Actor: for his roles in *The Beat That My Heart Skipped* (2005), *A Prophet* (2009), and *The French Minister* (2013). The performer's versatile body of work also includes appearances in international productions such as Steven Spielberg's *War Horse* (2011) and *The Diving Bell and the Butterfly* (2007).
