An old notary shows up at her office and demands to personally hand over a letter to her. Margaret can't believe her eyes: she herself sent the letter, 33 years ago. Back then, in a village in southern France, a young girl gives nine letters to notary Mérignac for delivery on her 40th birthday. Little Margaret is beginning to understand that growing up means big changes, and she wants to make sure she remembers what mattered to her as a child. The young notary accepts the job. His curiosity gets the better of him and he reads the letters. This job will turn out to be the most important one in his entire career.
