Ma vie avec James Dean

A young filmmaker travels to the rugged coast of northern France to present his first feature film in a small festival program. What begins as a cultural mission quickly develops into an absurd journey through the peculiarities of a region where everything seems a little out of time. Empty screenings, confused organizers and shy audiences shape the trip – but it is precisely in these apparent failures that new doors open: encounters with people who are enthusiastic about cinema, rave about the director or tell very unique stories lead to a new perspective on art, identity and life itself. With gentle humor and a sense for the whimsical, an homage to queer cinema unfolds, to the provinces – and to the unexpected. MY LIFE WITH JAMES DEAN premiered at the renowned Chéries-Chéris LGBTQ+-Festival in Paris in 2017 and was screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival, the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival and the Italian Mix Milano in 2018, among others. With this work, Dominique Choisy, himself a representative of French independent cinema, creates a warm-hearted, self-deprecating reflection on filmmaking far from the mainstream. The combination of poetic imagery, queer perspective and laconic humor makes the film an insider tip for lovers of European arthouse comedies.
