Businessman Titta di Girolamo seems to lead a normal and dull life. For almost ten years now, he has been living in a hotel in Lugano, where he spends his days waiting for something he himself does not seem to know what it is. His cold emotional detachment and daily routine are only broken by Sofia, the hotel's bartender, who brings a series of unexpected feelings into Titta's life, as well as the mafia and a dangerous dose of violence. The consequences of his love are as unpredictable as his feelings themselves. THE CONSEQUENCES OF LOVE was produced in Italy in 2004 and marked the international breakthrough for director Paolo Sorrentino. It was screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and won seven David di Donatello awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. Lead actor Toni Servillo received multiple honors for his powerful performance, cementing his close artistic connection with Sorrentino.
