Jesus of Montreal

This Oscar-nominated drama about a reinterpretation of the Passion of Christ shines in new splendor after being restored and digitized. The young actor Daniel is asked to modernize the annual Passion Play in Montreal and make it more contemporary. He reads the latest historical research about the Bible and gathers together a troupe of experienced actors who mostly work in the advertising and porn industries. His version of the play is very popular with the audience, but Daniel's client, Father Le Clerc, finds the reinterpretation blasphemous. Director Denys Arcand, known for his precise and often provocative social analyses, brings his masterful storytelling skills to bear in this film. JESUS OF MONTREAL received rave reviews worldwide and was awarded numerous prizes, including the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. "Intelligent and audacious" (New York Times)
